The University of Warwick offers a three-year course of study in Data Science (BSc). Students interested in the synergy of computer science and statistical methods should consider this course of student. Proficient mathematicians that are interested in learning and becoming experts in high-level theoretical methods that are connected to modern and current applications that require large-scale data analysis. This course was designed to be jointly organised by the Department of Computer Science, and the Department Statistics so that students can gain the technical aptitude and inside knowledge to work as leaders in fields of science industry, and business analysis. Over the last ten years the knowledge and expertise desired in an excellent data scientist has become highly valuable across industry and commerce.

Data scientists primarily deal with managing data and the transfer and movement of data at high speeds over large networks. Making sense of the exponential growth in data in an increasingly technological global society are the primary reason why Data Scientists are in high demand. Students interested in understanding how each part of contemporary life amassed immense amounts of data, from shopping online to social networking, or research and finance, and how that data is dealt with technologically should considered applying for this course.

Modules in this course of study include a combination of the following:

  • Mathematical Analysis
  • Sets and Numbers
  • Linear Algebra
  • Statistical Laboratory
  • Introduction to Probability
  • Mathematical Techniques
  • Design of Information Structures
  • Mathematical Programming I

Entry Requirements

Entry into this program are based on several ways to meet  the conditional conditional offer. For Students in taking A level further mathematics a combination of following is acceptable: A*(M) + A(FM) + A or A(M) + AA + 2 in any STEP paper or Merit in AEA. For students taking AS Further mathematics a combination of following is acceptable: A*(M)+ a (AS FM) + A*A or A(M) + AA + 2 in any STEP paper or Merit in AEA.

Students that are currently taking single Maths only, should strongly consider taking AS Further Mathematics (or possible the full A level) through a programmed named Further Mathematics Support Programme. This programme is offered mainly to students where Further Mathematics are not taught. Students who complete this course will then be possible eligible to receive the following conditional offer: A*(M)+ a (AS FM) + A*A or A(M) + AA + 2 in any STEP paper or Merit in AEA. Applicant must make sure that they explain this information on their UCAS application. For other combinations of offers please contact the department, especially in exceptional circumstances.

Students outside of the EU must have an International Baccalaureate Diploma of 37 points with a score of 7 in Higher Level Maths. Other international candidates without out the IB Diploma should contact the department. Scottish students must have an Advanced Higher AAA (including Maths), and Cambridge Pre-U students should have a D2 (Mathematics) D3 D3. Welsh Baccalaureate students should also contact the Department.
